750 billion US dollars are lost each year due to machine failures caused by insufficient lubrication and more than 22.2 million tonnes of lubricants seep into water and soil every year. Despite this, 240 billion US dollars are spent on lubrication annually. igus shows how a clean revolution can be achieved with pioneering technologies such as AI and VR as well as innovative materials. This year, the polymer specialist is presenting 247 innovations from all areas of lubrication-free motion plastics that benefit both the environment and industry. New products made from ECO materials and renewable resources, new linear and drive technology for the smallest installation spaces through to heavy-duty applications, the extension of the igus guarantee, AI-based robotic solutions and the igus:bike, which is now going into serial production under the new brand name RCYL.

Mobile “socket” from igus makes supplying container ships with shore power safe, fast and flexible

With the igus Mobile Shore Power Outlet (iMSPO), igus has developed a mobile connection system for shore power supply that can be positioned at any location along the terminal where a ship is berthed. This solution, which is already in use at the Port of Hamburg, received the “Ports and Harbor Innovation of the Year” award at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe 2024 in Amsterdam.

Mobile robotic systems are being used in more and more work areas, from e-commerce warehouses to modern restaurants. Conventional models on the market start at around €25,000, while solutions with an integrated robot arm are priced at approx. €70,000 (prices may vary in your country). However, widespread use is often unaffordable for small and medium-sized companies due to the high prices. igus wants to change this with new low-cost robotics offerings and is presenting a series of low-cost mobile plastic robots at the Hannover Messe.

igus invests in Industry 4.0 and takes over sensor specialist Atronia

In March 2024, igus acquired the majority stake in Portuguese company Atronia Tailored Sensing. The sensor specialist has been enabling plastic products from Cologne to feel for five years now. With this strategic step, igus intends to expand their offer in the market for networked plastic components. The aim is to mass-produce Industry 4.0 products and make them accessible to small and medium-sized companies.
