iglidur plain bearings allow the “Solaris” solar boat to move easily across the water

Published on: 29th July 2021

A team of Polish students in Wrocław is developing the transportation of the future. The autonomous speedboat called Solaris is powered exclusively with solar energy. So that the boat can drive easily and maintenance-free over rivers and lakes, the young engineers rely on igus plain bearings made of the high-performance polymer iglidur J in the steering system. The bearings offer the necessary stability, reduce the boat’s weight and ensure lubrication-free use.

The Best in Black: the new igus high-performance polymer iglidur J3B

Published on: 10th January 2020

For the bearing of pivoting and rotary applications, igus introduces iglidur J3, a lubrication-free and long-lasting tribo-polymer. The endurance runner convinces, above all, with its proven, very low coefficient of friction. As the yellowish material did not always match the design concept of the user, igus has now further developed the tried-and-tested tribo-polymer into the black iglidur J3B. But igus always has the right material for other applications as well. The intuitively operated iglidur online expert system helps with the selection.

Urmel’s lubrication-free return to the ice

Published on: 10th January 2020

Defrosting glaciers and declining fish stocks are just two examples of the effects of climate change in Alaska. In order to raise awareness of the issue among the population and to promote alternative drives, the Hoepner brothers from Berlin are developing their amphibious vehicle “Urmel”. They want to travel across Alaska with it. In order for Urmel to be able to drive over hill and dale and ice and snow, light and wear-resistant bearings are required. With the support of igus, the young inventors opted for lubrication-free iglidur tribo-polymers.

No lubrication in spite of metal with maintenance-free igubal polymer spherical bearings

Published on: 30th April 2019

Heavy dirt accumulation, dust and swarf are commonplace for pillow blocks and fixed flange bearings. Constant lubrication and maintenance is therefore necessary. With the injection-moulded igus spherical balls, customers can resort to a lubrication-free and maintenance-free solution for their metallic pillow blocks. igus has now developed new spherical balls made of the high-performance plastic iglidur J, specifically for cost-effective sheet metal housings. These can be mounted in seconds. The complete solution is available directly from stock.
