The motion plastics specialist igus operates the largest test laboratory in the industry on more than 3,800 square metres. 10 billion cycles are covered every year for energy chains and cables alone. Now igus has commissioned a new automated test facility for long distances in outdoor premises in Cologne Porz-Lind.
igus has developed a new self-lubricating, two-component bearing, iglide Q2E, that can withstand the extreme conditions frequently found in agricultural machines, utility vehicles, offshore installations and other demanding environments.
119 teams from 25 nations came to the Hockenheimring last week with their racing cars to race against each other. In the international design competition this year, lightweight vehicle construction was one of the most crucial criteria. Therefore, the students relied on lightweight, lubrication-free and maintenance-free plain bearing technology from igus. Whether in the pedals, the steering or in the chain drive, the iglidur tribo-polymers bring the sports cars to the finish quickly and safely.
Designing the right shaft for an application is not easy without CAD software and in-depth technical knowledge. igus has now developed a new, free-of-charge and freely accessible online tool with the drylin shaft configurator. In just three steps, the user is given the opportunity to select the right shaft in the required length from seven materials, machine the main body and the machined ends with standard elements such as chamfers and grooves and order the configuration. In addition, the user receives the STEP files of their configuration as well as a dimension drawing for download, free of charge.
From technical innovation and the standard up to a far-sighted solution: this characterises the evolution of igus roller energy chains. For more than 45 years, the motion plastics specialist has been developing energy supply systems that reliably guide cables for all media – such as Ethernet, servo, motor – as well as hoses.
