Cables in theatre and stage technology have to work hard. Stage spaces are often narrow and complex, and cables have to withstand tight bend radii and frequent movements over long periods of time. A technical failure can quickly lead to a premature end of the evening. To ensure that the cables are both fail-safe and unobtrusive, igus has now developed a new and unobtrusive series of its highly flexible chainflex cables. igus will present the new industry solution and other new products at the SPS in Nuremberg (Hall 4, Stand 310).

For over thirty years, igus has been developing highly flexible cables specifically for use in energy chains – be it in cleanrooms, the wood industry, production facilities of car manufacturers, train-washing systems or on the world’s largest cranes. igus cables are not only extremely durable, but also tailored to the specific requirements of each industry. Now igus is entering the stage technology market with a new cable series. “In stage and theatre technology, cables must be able to move precisely and reliably, often under difficult spatial conditions. Optical compatibility also plays a decisive role,” says Katharina Wielpütz, Business Development Manager for chainflex Cables at igus. The new chainflex cables are therefore not only highly resilient and flexible, but also available in a black design that blends in perfectly with the unobtrusive and professional appearance of theatre and stage technology.

Fail-safe and inconspicuous

Until now, technicians have often been faced with the challenge of choosing from a market that offers robust solutions for industry but neglects the specific aesthetic and mechanical requirements of stage and theatre technology. “With our new chainflex CFSPECIAL.381 series, we are fulfilling our customers’ wishes for cables that are fail-safe in motion, cost-effective and don’t interfere with the field of vision,” says Katharina Wielpütz. The new series comprises the three bus cables CAT6, CAT7 and DMX. The entire igus chainflex range has now grown to over 1,350 cable types, a fact that the company owes, among other things, to its in-house test laboratory. On an area of 5,500m2, igus experts carry out over two billion test cycles per year. Thanks to these tests and the high material quality, igus is the only manufacturer in the world to offer a 4-year guarantee on its cables. igus also offers all cables ready for connection as readycable or included in the suitable energy chain as readychain. For the special requirements of stage and theatre technology, igus has developed even more robust and reliable solutions: from the e-spool theatre spring cable drum to the zig-zag energy chain system to the e-spool microphone. As a result, igus now provides a comprehensive overall package of solutions for stage and theatre technology, including cables, energy chains and ready-to-connect system solutions.

Diversity and expansion into other sectors

The market launch of the new cables for stage and theatre technology is just the beginning: at the SPS in Nuremberg (Hall 4, Stand 310), igus will be presenting other special chainflex cables, for example single cores for the crane industry and PVC cables for wood processing and the food industry.
